Red Space Bird - Tutorial & Pattern

My nephew's birthday is coming up and I have been very busy sewing party favors.  First up?  The red angry bird from space.

You like?  Want to make one of your own?  I have made a pattern.  Do not use this pattern for monetary gain.  If you want to post this on your blog please link to mine - don't just take the pattern.  If you want one for your own and are not into sewing, contact me - I will make you one!

Click and print the patterns and follow below for the tutorial.
Pattern Piece 1

Pattern Piece 2

Pattern Piece 3
Cut out all the pattern pieces as specified - note that all patterns have a half inch seam allowance already in them.

Sew the two beak pieces together - turn right side out.
Sew the two black tail feathers together - turn right side out.

Stitch the belly pieces onto two bird body pieces like shown.  When the bird's body pieces are all sewn together this will create the creme under belly.

Stitch the two feathers together and turn right side out.

Put two body pieces together.  Put the black feather sandwiched between in the middle.
This is how it looks turned right side out.
Stitch the two body pieces that have the belly sewn on together.
Place the eye mask on the body half that has the belly.  Pin and sew.
Add the eyes and sew.
Pin the top feathers.  I overlapped them a little, keeping the larger one in front.  I also noticed that the black stitching around the eyes really showed.  I suggest using white thread for that.  Since I had already sewn them I colored them black with a fabric pen.
Pin the two body pieces together in a circle and  sew together.  Make sure to leave an opening to turn the bird right side out.
Pin the beak on and hand stitch
Stuff, stitch the back closed and you are done!

Coming up?  The Ice Bird!
