Ambering Along: Wine Decorative Coasters

I saw these cute coasters and decided to try them out for myself. (Normally I would link to where I first saw the project, but the link is no longer active). I love that they are snug on the bottom of the glass making them a glass marker as well as a coaster. I know many people who drink wine so this should be a great gift!

I started with my stash of scrap fabrics cutting out as many circles as I could. It is a fairly simple project that doesn't take very long. I think you could do one in about 15 minutes. I made 3 sets of 4.

Start by cutting out circles. Lots of circles. I used an old CD shape that I found on the top of a spindle of DVDs.

Next, I sorted out the circles to create groupings of 5 that went together. I made 3 sets of 4 coasters total. Each coaster needs 5 circles.

Iron 4 of your 5 circles in half.

Put your first ironed circle on your bottom circle and pin. Make sure that the bottom circle is right side UP.

Place your second circle half on top of your first circle half like so and pin.

Place your third circle on top and pin. Sorry for being confusing and picturing one that has a duplicate fabric - the red plaid is the third circle AND the bottom fabric.

Place your fourth circle on top, covering the visible first circle.

Gently pull the fourth circle half back to reveal the first circle half (gray) and fold the fourth circle half to be under the first.

Now you can no longer see the bottom fabric and have half of each circle half showing.

Sew all the way around the circle. Do not leave an opening. I also cut notches out so that the fabric wont bunch up when turned right side out - thats a lot of fabric to deal with!
